An Interview with Dave Rink of DE Rink Construction

           

    Recently, we interviewed one of the Ladd Group’s featured builders, Dave Rink of DE Rink Construction here in Bend, Oregon. Dave is the builder of an exceptional property located in the Three Pines neighborhood: 19189 Mt Shasta Drive

      

     

    Q: Tell me about the design inspiration & vision you had for this house? 

    We start each home by studying the orientation of the lot, the adjacent homes and how to maximize the light and views while maintaining privacy. This lot has a unique setting with forested land to the South and a nice sky view to the North with a gentle slope – perfect for a daylight basement home. We were looking for a more relaxed Central Oregon Rustic Contemporary feel that is soothing and versatile with any furniture design. D E Rink teamed up with Jason Offutt of the Shelter Studio to create a custom home on one of the last spacious Three Pines lots. We like to create an environment that feels open yet comfortable throughout the home without eliminating natural light. Main level living is always first in our planning as well as our “easy-up” stairs with shorter rise and longer treads for ease of access to other levels at any age.

     

    Q: What are your favorite elements of this home? 

    There are numerous favorite elements to mention. The most exciting element is the Control 4 smart home technologies with capabilities to basically control any item in this home. All rooms and exterior patios are pre-wired for speakers and lighting that can be adjusted or monitored remotely either while home or abroad.  Also worth mentioning are the Norman size brick exterior columns and 18’ brick fireplace with floating concrete hearth and walnut mantel in the great room. Another simple but worthy element is the garage drain for snow covered cars in the winter – no more frozen garage door! And as on all our homes, the patios have hose bibs, BBQ hook ups, sky lights, maintenance free surfaces and privacy screening for the entertaining expert.

     

    Q: What are a few features you are especially proud of in regards to building quality?

    Maintenance-free is one feature you will boast about with your friends on the golf course or pickle ball court for sure. When others are worried about ice damns we have you covered there as well with 6’ of ice and water around the entire roof’s overhang. Our heating system is a 96% efficient gas furnace with 75 gallons of hot water available with a recirc pump so hot water is instant – anywhere, anytime in all D E Rink Construction homes. Of course we also have you covered in the summer with A/C, dual zoned for year around comfort.

     

    The kitchen & baths feature quartz counter tops with custom designed alder cabinets, soft/close drawers, self/close doors, large center island and easy access pantry with all of the luxury you would expect from Brian’s Cabinets.  Our Master bath is filled with natural light which includes a free standing tub, curbless shower, ceiling spout, a hand held, frameless shower door, tile warm floor which is thermostatically controlled for year around comfort. We love the Satin nickel finish hardware for plumbing fixtures, door hardware & cabinet pulls in this quality home.

     

    Q Can you tell us one fun fact about you?

    I have lived in Bend and been married for over 40 years. Liz and I together have built or remodeled over 1100 buildings since moving here in the 70’s. We love being grandparents to two lovely girls and we still get out to camp, boat, water ski, bike and cruise the NW bowls at Mt Bachelor. We know all the secret places in Central Oregon and still very much enjoy living and working here.
